Art educator and artist, Nancy Raia, hosted a gallery talk and tour for residents of Carroll Place, a Mercy Medical assistant living community. The residents enjoyed the Traveling Pants Alabama Initiative, an Eastern Shore Art Center project underwritten by the Alabama State Council on the Arts. The show included artworks of students from across the state that created art by decorating jeans and expressing their reaction to their environmental concerns, and their love for the outdoors. The top pairs of jeans were juried and displayed at the art center in Fairhope for the month of April. Many students also provided narratives of things they enjoy doing in nature, like fishing with Grandpa, learning about flowers with Nana, and learning about the best things outdoors from their grandparents.
The residents delighted in the many references the students made to the older generation. Mercy Medical’s assisted living communities often visit the ESAC gallery and participate in tours, enjoy talks and meet artists at work as part of an ESAC community outreach program.
Carroll Place is located in Fairhope at 50 Spring Run Road. For more information, please call 251-928-5555 or go online at mercymedical.com/CarrollPlace.
