Mercy volunteers show their support of Mercy’s Guardian Angel by assembling this year’s Polo-at-the-Point invitations. The Guardian Angel program was created to raise funds to help cover the ever increasing, non-reimbursable expenses Mercy incurs as it cares for critically ill children in their homes. Mercy’s Guardian Angel was designated as the main beneficiary of this year’s Polo at the Point. Pictured early morning are from left Alvin King, Sharon Knowles, Judy Hazelton, Katie McLain, Ed Schone, and Rosie Pope. Not pictured are Peggy Thornhill and Glover Barnes.

Recently, volunteers of Mercy Medical showed their support by collating, assembling and sealing 4,500 Polo-at-the-Point invitations in preparation of the big event. The beautiful invitations, designed by Herndon’s Marketing Design of Fairhope, features Amanda Hendrich’s oil painting of Polo Players and a convenient response card for ticket orders.
Sponsors for Polo at the Point to date include Presenting Sponsors Dragon Fly Boatworks, LLC. and IberiaBank; Player Party Sponsors Schwing Bioset and Pilot Catastrophe; and Team Sponsors Ferguson and Grand Hotel Marriott.
The 2009 Polo at the Point and Players’ Party, hosted by Point Clear Charities, are scheduled October 23-25 at the newly built Sonny Hill-Clearwater Farms Polo Complex and Sonny Hill Practice Fields in Point Clear, Ala. Since 1988, Polo at the Point has raised millions of dollars that benefited cancer research, local non-profit organizations, and children’s charities and has become known as the Gulf Coast’s most prestigious charity sporting event. This year, Point Clear Charities has designated Mercy’s Guardian Angel as the main beneficiary of the event. More than 70% of Mercy’s pediatric home care costs are funded through Guardian Angel, a program that has become vital for our community. The program helps local children with chronic illness needing close monitoring, medication administration, care of infusion catheters, wounds, failure to thrive and other treatments to receive the best care available.
“As Polo at the Point approaches, everything is starting to come together. We are expecting a great turnout and have an army of dedicated volunteers and loyal sponsors that make this event a success every year,” explained Anne-Clinton Groom, chair of tickets and invitation.
Polo at the Point is regarded as a premier event on the Eastern Shore drawing players and attendees internationally. Sponsorship opportunities are still available including tent sponsorships for private party hosting. Choose from a 20 x 20 or a 20 x 40 foot tent with a field-side or tailgate side location.
Tickets range from $10 (tailgating) to $100. Players’ Party tickets are $100 and are limited.
