Hoops of Hope to benefit Mercy’s Charity Care including Pediatric Home Care and Hospice programs
March 02, 2010

Mercy Medical announced its annual fundraising event, Hoops of Hope presented by LSUs Dale Brown, will be on March 2, 2010 from 6-9 pm at the Daphne Civic Center.

The event will help raise funds for Mercy Medical’s charity care, including its pediatric home care and hospice care programs and will feature fantastic food from local favorites, beer, and wine in an indoor tailgate party. Also spotlighting the event will be a silent auction that includes Shaquille O’Neal's limited edition autographed, size 23 sneaker, tickets to sporting events, and much more. However, Coach Brown, an internationally known speaker and a legendary coach of our time, will highlight the night with his inspirational stories and motivational words of wisdom.

Brown has been serving up grand slam programs to audiences throughout the world. As a professional speaker, Brown is recognized as one of the most accomplished and gifted speakers in the world and his gift for motivating both teams and individuals is legendary. As a basketball coach at Louisiana State University for 25 years (1972-1997), he appeared in 15 straight national tournaments and is the second winningest coach in SEC history. He led teams to 17 consecutive non-losing seasons. He has led his teams to two Final Fours and four Elite Eights. He was named SEC Coach of the Year or runner-up nine times and was twice named National Basketball Coach of the Year.

Educated by nuns, understanding their dedication and great work, Brown willingly waived his presenting fee as a donation to Mercy Medical because of his strong Catholic background and respect for the Sisters of Mercy. Brown is well-known for taking a risk for the underdog as well as expecting no exceptions because of it. According to Brown, “It’s not your background that counts, it’s your backbone that counts. You control your own destiny whether you come out of a welfare family like me, a mother in poverty with an eighth-grade education, or not. If you are looking for a helping hand, look at the end of your own damn arm!”

The presenting sponsorship, the Hoops of Hope Slam Dunk, is still available and includes sitting with Coach Dale Brown the night of the event and lots of promotional opportunities. Tickets are limited so reserve yours today. Other sponsorship opportunities and tickets can be found online at mercymedical.com/hoopsofhope or by calling 621-4884.
