WWII Hero and Author Sid Phillips will Speak and Sign Books at Portier Place

Meet retired WWII Marine hero Sidney Phillips and his sister Katharine Phillips Singer at Portier Place, a Mercy Medical independent living community on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 10 am. The pair will talk about their WWII experiences from the point of view of being at war and being at home. The public is invited, especially veterans. A retired family practice physician from Mobile, Alabama, Phillips is most widely known to the public as one of the collaborators who provided source material and interviews for the making of Ken Burns' PBS documentary film The War and the HBO miniseries The Pacific. Phillips is the author of the book You'll be Sor-ree, an accounting of his experiences in the US Marines. His books will be available for purchase at this event for $25. As a surviving veteran of World War II battles including the Guadalcanal Campaign and the Battle of Cape Gloucester, he has provided valuable documentary interviews describing his recollections of the Pacific Theater of Operations.
